Purifiers vs. Ionisers vs. Ozonators - What's the Difference?

There are Three Types of Air Purifiers:

1. General Purifiers: One in which the water serves as a filter. the color of the water can be observed, becoming cloudy as it traps dust particles from the air with the degree of cloudiness depending on how dusty the air is.

2. Ionisers: One which ionizes, using an ionizer which is a small electrical component housed in the lid next to the motor. The ioniser emits only negative charged ions which attach themselves to positively charged particles (eg: air pollutants), resulting in the neutralisation of both particles and the positively charged particle to settle to the ground.

3. Ozonators: One which cleans the air with ozone. Ozonators (ozone generators) suck in air, fan the air deeper within the machine and turn oxygen into ozone via a high voltage mechanism and UV light. the ozone reacts with pollutants and harmful particles by breaking them down into simpler and less dangerous molecules, a process known as oxidation.

An important clarification should be made concerning ozone production in air ionisers and ozonators. All air ionisers are air purifiers, and some air ionisers are capable of producing ozone, but air ionisers are not the same as ozone generators.

Many air ioniser brands emit ozone, resulting in a distinct electric/burned odour. In some brands it is most common for air ionisers that use a metal needle as the element of ionisation to produce ozone. A metal needle will oxidise with time, releasing ozone in the process. This is not the case with the AP001LEDION entry level model as it has no ozone functionality; this model has no ozonator and does not emit ozone.

After using an ioniser, the only real “smell” you should sense is best described as a smell of freshness – similar to the smell of the air before thunder hits or after a thunderstorm. Why? In most simple terms – since negative ions remove even the smallest particles, they also remove any odour or smells. If we remove all odours and other harmful particles from the air, then nothing remains except clean and pure air.

Crystal Aire AP001LEDION - This is an entry level air purifier categorized under ‘small electrical appliances.’ This purifier is not a medical device and should not be used as treatment for medical conditions. The air purification method this purifier employs involves ‘washing the air in water.’ This process is comparable to the concept of a vacuum cleaner that uses water instead of reusable bags.

The machine does not require Crystal Aire concentrates to be effective. However, the use of concentrates will provide a fragrance to the room. Additionally, the concentrates are formulated to trap micro dust particles and make the purification process a step more effective. It is very important to note that, as stated on the box and in the instructions provided, no other brand concentrates must be used as some of them are corrosive and will damage the motor and ioniser in the lid. The lid is a sealed unit and must not be opened outside our factory.
